§ Mr. Douglas HoggUnder the programme announced in May 1986 there would be 500 additional police officer posts available in 1988–89 for allocation to provincial forces if the specific need for them is established. Three hundred posts would be available for the Metropolitan police subject to my right hon. Friend being satisfied with the use made by that force of the increase allowed in 1986–87 and 1987–88. The programme allows for similar growth in 1989–90.
