HL Deb 30 June 1988 vol 498 c1819WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they intend to negotiate with the Soviet Union and the United States to secure the exclusion of any Trident missiles which the United States might be willing to sell to the UK from any START Agreement that those two governments might reach, given that the text agreed in Moscow appears to cover all "strategic offensive delivery systems" that either of the two parties might deploy or produce.

Lord Trefgarne

The US-Soviet START negotiations relate to US and Soviet strategic nuclear delivery systems and warheads. The Soviet Union has accepted that the UK deterrent is not included.
