HC Deb 21 June 1988 vol 135 cc542-3W
Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services, pursuant to his question of 12 April,Official Report, column 343, what is his policy towards the treatment of National Health Service patients in need of physiotherapy outside the National Health Service by non-state registered physiotherapists.

Mr. Newton

Physiotherapy treatment for National Health Service patients is provided within the National Health Service by state registered physiotherapists. Where an NHS patient is referred outside for treatment, which is likely to be only in very unusual circumstances, there is no formal requirement that the physiotherapist should be state registered. Outside the NHS patients have the right to choose to seek treatment both from physiotherapists who are state registered and from those who are not.
