HC Deb 21 June 1988 vol 135 c525W
38. Mr. Favell

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on Her Majesty's Government's policy towards anti-racist measures adopted by education authorities.

Mrs. Rumbold

It is Government policy that ethnic minority pupils should have the same opportunity as all others to profit from what the schools can offer them and that schools should preserve and transmit our national values in a way which accepts Britain's ethnic diversity and promotes tolerance and racial harmony. It is for individual local education authorities and schools to determine, in the light of their own needs and circumstances, how to give effect to those policies.
