HC Deb 20 June 1988 vol 135 c416W
Mr. Hayes

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what information he has as to how many British tourists have been killed on Spanish beached over the last seven years by drowning.

Mr. Eggar

Over the past five years our consulates in Spain have been informed of 83 British nationals who died by drowning. Of these, a number drowned in swimming pools.

Not all such deaths are reported to us. Further statistics are not readily available, and could be provided only at disproportionate costs.
