HL Deb 20 June 1988 vol 498 cc587-8WA
Lord Sefton of Garston

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they intend to seek assurances from any prospective purchaser of Girobank that head office will remain at its present location.

Lord Beaverbrook

My Lords, the Post Office will of course discuss its plans for the business with potential purchasers and an important issue in its discussions will be to pay proper regard to the interests of its staff. Most of Girobank's facilities are at its main processing centre in Bootle and I would expect it to be in the interest of any purchaser to maintain and develop this centre.
