HL Deb 20 June 1988 vol 498 c587WA
Lord O'Hagan

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is their latest estimate of the number of jobs created in England, Wales and Scotland as a result of investment by companies from other member states of the European Community since 1979.

The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (Lord Young of Graffham)

My Lords, the following are the Invest in Britain Bureau (IBB) figures for the number of jobs expected to be created or safeguarded, in the long term, by inward investment projects announced by companies from other member states of the European Community in each year since 1979 for England, Wales and Scotland. The figures are based on information provided by the companies themselves and include only those jobs associated with inward investment projects currently known to the IBB.
