HL Deb 16 June 1988 vol 498 cc489-90WA
The Marquess of Ailesbury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied that the practice of closing South Carriage Road in Hyde Park frequently but not permanently does not cause confusion.

The Minister of State, Department of the Environment (The Earl of Caithness)

South Carriage Drive between Prince of Wales Gate and Hyde Park Corner is closed to motor traffic all day on Sundays during the summer months and for short periods at other times during ceremonial events. On each occasion signs are placed at midnight on the roads in the vicinity of South Carriage Drive advising motorists of closure the following day. While I appreciate that closure of South Carriage Drive at varying times may cause occasional uncertainty, I am content that the present arrangements for advising motorists are adequate.
