HL Deb 16 June 1988 vol 498 c489WA
Lord Sefton of Garston

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have come to a conclusion about the probable effect of the new Employment Training Scheme on community programmes, and whether they will take steps to ensure that the services provided by community programmes will not be diminished when the scheme comes into operation.

Lord Young of Graffham

The Community Programme will be replaced from 5th September by Employment Training. Project-based training will be an important part of the new programme with some 194,000 project-based opportunities in the first year—broadly the present level of Community Programme provision. I hope that most current Community Programme providers will take up the opportunity to move forward into Employment Training, bringing with them the best features of the present programme.
