HC Deb 16 June 1988 vol 135 c196W
Ms. Richardson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received regarding amendment of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 to bring private clubs, with both female and male members, within the scope of the Act; and what action he is taking.

Mr. John Patten

A number of right hon. and hon. Members have made representations recently about the call which the organisation "Women in Golf" has made for a change in the law. In its recent report "Equal Treatment for Men and Women" the Equal Opportunities Commission included a proposal to bring private clubs with both female and male members within the scope of the Sex Discrimination Act. I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to her questions on this on 14 March.
