HC Deb 16 June 1988 vol 135 c306W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment, pursuant to the reply to the hon. Member for Bradford, South of 26 May,Official Report, column 315, why the inspector was concerned only with the security of the stockpiles on his visit to Penlee quarry on 5 January; how long was the visit; why no check was made on machinery guards and conveyors; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholls

The inspector visited Penlee quarry, not to carry out a routine inspection of the site, but to investigate a specific complaint from the public. The investigation took approximately three hours, was restricted to the extensive stockpiling areas and did not include the preparation plant area where the conveyors are sited.
