To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons were granted temporary admission in each of the years from 1982 to 1986, 1987 and in 1988 up to the present time; and how many such persons still remain.

The total numbers of persons granted temporary admission to the United Kingdom in the years 1982, 1983 and 1984 were 6,584, 7,292 and 8,527 respectively. The information available for 1985 onwards was given in reply to a question from the hon. Member on 22 April, at column594. Information on the numbers of such persons granted temporary admission who still remain in the United Kingdom is not available.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons who arrived in Britain as visitors and who have subsequently married persons settled in Britain (i) are awaiting interview and (ii) have been interviewed and await a decision.
