HC Deb 16 June 1988 vol 135 c204W
Dr. Godman

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) if he has any plans to review the extant planning procedures relating to the siting or expansion of fish farms; and if he will make a statement;

(2) what recent representations he has received concerning the planning and siting of salmonid fish farms and other fish farms; and if he will make a statement.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

My right hon. and learned Friend has received a number of representations arguing for or against changes in the procedures currently operated by the Crown Estate commissioners in relation to the establishment of offshore fish farms. He is currently reviewing the operation of these procedures, and the representations are being taken into account. The results of the review will be announced in due course. The Government have no plans to review the current planning procedures relating to fish farms in inland waters.
