To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take steps to amend the vocational guidance given to prisoners shortly before their release from Corntonvale prison; and if he will make a statement.

A comprehensive programme of training and guidance is given to prisoners before their release from Corntonvale. The programme is regularly reviewed as to its relevance and content. If the hon. Member wishes to raise a particular aspect, perhaps he would write to me.

    • Office Studies

Methods:

Direct teaching, correspondence courses and practical guidance.

  • City and Guilds and SCOTVEC (modular) courses are available in:
    • Sewing and garment making
    • Gardening
    • Catering
  • Courses are being planned in:
    • Hairdressing
    • Manicuring
    • Beauticulture
