To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects o be able to provide further details of the new discount scheme for public sector tenants wishing to buy their council houses; and when he now expects the new provisions to take effect.

[holding answer 14 June 1988]: Details of the items to be contained in the determination covering the revised discount provisions are currently under consideration, but it is expected that the new scheme including the cost floor provisions, will be commenced two months after the Housing Bill receives Royal Assent.

The framework of the new provisions will be broadly in line with that which applies at present in England and Wales.
