Mr. Soley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the cost of providing home improvement grants and what was the number of dwellings involved, for private owner-occupiers, landlords and housing associations, private tenants and public sector tenants; what were the total costs for private owners and tenants for the years 1980 to 1987; and what is the current estimate for 1988.

Following are the estimates of the amount of home improvement grants paid and the numbers of dwellings covered by these grants, with the local authorities' expenditure on administration of home improvement and home insulation grants.
