§ 71. Mr. FavellTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what account is taken in the conduct of foreign policy of the volume of trade between the United Kingdom and other countries; and how this is reflected in current relations with(a) Europe and (b) the Commonwealth.
§ Mrs. ChalkerThe overall objective of our relations with any country in Europe, the Commonwealth or elsewhere, is to enhance the security and prosperity of the United Kingdom. The volume of trade between the United Kingdom and another country is only one of the factors which is taken into account in framing a policy designed to achieve that objective.
