§ Mr. CopeAt the end of April 1988 there were 381,000 young people training on the two-year YTS. Over 50 per cent. of trainees entering their second year on the scheme have already gained a vocational qualification. Latest survey results show that when young people leave YTS, 75 per cent. go into jobs or into further education and training. The YTS is firmly established among young people as a natural and valued start to working life, while employers welcome YTS as the means to ensuring a highly trained and adaptable work force.
