HC Deb 07 June 1988 vol 134 c504W
46. Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what arrangements are being made by his Department to provide advice on employment or training to young people who cease to be eligible for benefits on 4 September.

Mr. Cope

From September 12 when most young people under 18 will cease to be eligible for income support, the Government are extending their guarantee of a YTS place to all 16 and 17-year-olds who are not in work or further education. As a result, no young person under 18 need be unemployed. Advice and help in applying for training and employment opportunities will be promptly and readily available, as now, from the careers services provided by local authorities and from my Department's jobcentres.
