To ask the Secretary of State for Employment when he next plans to meet the chairman of the Health and Safety Commission to discuss safety on building and construction sites; and if he will make a statement.

I have not planned to meet the chairman of the Health and Safety Commission to discuss safety on building and construction sites. The Government fully support the Health and Safety Executive's approach to improving safety standards in this area, which was outlined in the debate on 2 December 1987. It includes the current series of blitzes and other initiatives designed to effectively impress on employers and others the importance of safety.
