HC Deb 07 June 1988 vol 134 cc479-80W
Mr. Steel

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what account he has taken of the potential usefulness of using dates of birth in the community charge register as a means of assistance for the assessors.

Mr. Howard

There will be no assessors in England and Wales. The Government's view of the usefulness of dates of birth to community charges registration officers in England and Wales was set out by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, during the Committee stage of the Local Government Finance Bill(Official Report, Standing Committee E; 9 February, c. 524).

Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether community charge officers will be able to have access to the personal data that may be carried by the Government data network.

Mr. Howard
