To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how the rate of exchange of the pound sterling with the currencies subject to the exchange rate mechanism of the European monetary system has altered since January 1986.

The average sterling exchange rate index against those currencies participating in the exchange rate mechanism of the European monetary system has fallen by 3.7 per cent. since January 1986.

Member for Burnley on 20 May,Official Report, column 583, how many of the representations received on the value of the pound were from the glass-making industry; to what effect they were made; and if he will make a statement;

(2) pursuant to the answer to the hon. Member for Burnley on 20 May, Official Report, column 583, how many of the representations on the value of the pound were from the aerospace aviation industry or its supplier; to what effect they were made; and if he will make a statement;

(3) pursuant to the answer to the hon. Member for Burnley on 20 May, Official Report, column 583, how many of the representations received on the value of the pound were from the textiles industry; to what effect they were made; and if he will make a statement;

(4) pursuant to the answer given to the hon. Member for Burnley on 20 May, Official Report, column 583, how many of the representations received on the value of the pound were from the motor industry or its suppliers; to what effect they were made; and if he will make a statement.
