§ Mr. Ieuan Wyn JonesTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will consider pressing for a minimum import price for New Zealand lamb imported into the European Community.
§ Mr. Donald Thompson[holding answer 27 May 1988]: The European Council in February 1988 invited the Commission to prepare a mandate for negotiations with third countries on the import arrangements for sheepmeat. The Commission envisaged that this might contain a number of points including the respecting of import price discipline.
We shall consider the draft mandate and the appropriateness of the individual elements in it once the Commission submits it to the Council.
