§ Mr. GallowayTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will instruct Her Majesty's consul in Johannesburg to stay in regular contact with British passport holder Mrs. Susan Donnelly (nèe Wescott); if he will press the South African authorities for an explanation of the circumstances of her arrest and what charges are to be laid against her and how soon; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. EggarAs my hon. and learned Friend the Minister of State told the hon. Member on 23 May 1988, consular access has already been obtained to Mrs. Donnelly. Consular officials are also in regular touch with the local police authorities, who are holding Mrs. Donnelly under the provisions of South Africa's Internal Security Act. Our officials will continue to monitor her case and do all that they properly can to assist her.
