The table shows the numbers of discharges, after a stay of five years or more, into the community from National Health Service mental illness and mental handicap hospitals and units in England. The table also shows these discharges as a percentage of all discharges inclusive of transfers and irrespective of duration of stay. Comparable figures for 1979 are not readily available.
