§ Mr. CorbynTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what actions have been taken by Her Majesty's ambassador to Chile in respect of(a) the detention of former United Kingdom resident Jamie Caro and (b) the safety of other returning exiles.
§ Mr. EggarSri Caro is a Chilean citizen. We have therefore no consular standing to intervene on his behalf. We are, however, aware of the practical difficulties faced by some Chileans now returning to their own country. Her Majesty's ambassador is in regular touch with returnees from the United Kingdom, who seem to find this helpful. He has discussed some of the returnees' practical difficulties with the Chilean authorities. We do not, however, believe that returning exiles are in any greater physical danger than others in Chile.
