HC Deb 07 June 1988 vol 134 c478W
Mr. Norman Hogg

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what discussions took place with his Department concerning the sale of the British waterways freight organisation; what consultation took place with interested parties; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moynihan

The British Waterways Board discussed with the Department its proposed approach to the sale of its road freight depots. The board advised staff and trade unions in February that it was seeking private sector involvement to secure the future of the depots. Staff and unions have been given details of the terms of the sale, which enabled staff to transfer on their existing conditions of service.
