To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what representations he has received concerning overcrowding at Her Majesty's prison, Armley, in Leeds; and if he will make a statement;

(2) what plans he has to relieve the overcrowding at Armley prison, Leeds; and if he will make a statement.

I refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to a question from the hon. Member for Don Valley (Mr. Redmond) on 22 April 1988 at columns 592–93. My right hon. Friend has received no recent representations concerning overcrowding at the prison.
