HC Deb 29 July 1988 vol 138 c799W
Mr. Baldry

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what progress has been made on the consultations on reforming the registration service announced by the Government on 3 December 1987,Official Report, House of Lords, column 1230.

Mrs. Currie

Those consultations have been completed and we now have the report of a working group set up by the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys and the local authority associations, which has also taken the views of the staff associations and other interested parties and which has produced detailed recommendations for the modernisation of the service. Ministers accepted the working group's views as the basis for wider public consultation, and a consultative document based on them will be issued in the autumn.
