To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give figures for each local authority area, for the number of patients suffering from mental illness that have, during the year 1986–87 been transferred from mental institutions to unregistered homes; and if he will make a statement.

In 1986, the latest year for which figures are available, 1,080 people were discharged into the community after stays of over five years (excluding those who were merely transferred from one hospital to another). On other issues related to this matter I shall write to my hon. Friend.
