asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many people are at present training to become prison officers, and how many of that number it is proposed to allocate to existing prisons or remand centres and how many to prisons or remand centres as yet unopened.

On 25th July, 726 new entrants were being trained as prison officers. A further 214 completed their training on 22nd July. Out of the total of 940, 359 have been allocated to existing establishments and 142 to establishments yet to be opened. The remainder have yet to be allocated.
