Member for Ynys Môn (Mr. Jones), if he will express the 11 per cent, real increase in National Health Service spending in Wales since 1985–86 on a year by year basis, indicating in the case of 1988–89 what percentage is attributable to the nurses' pay settlement.
§ Mr. GristI do not recognise the figure of 11 per cent, to which the right hon. Gentleman refers: the increase in spending on the National Health Service in Wales since 1985–86 is nearly 16 per cent, in real terms. The year-on-year increases are 3.9 per cent., 6.1 per cent, and 50 per cent, respectively. The nurses' pay settlement following the fifth report of the review body accounts for 3 per cent, of the increase since 1987–88.

§ Mr. GristExpenditure on the National Health Service in Wales was £921.055 million in 1985–86 and GDP per capita in Wales was £4,509 in 1985. The ratio between these sums is 204,270:1.
