To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what is his estimate of how many people over pensionable age are receiving national insurance retirement pension, either basic, additional or graduated, of less than £1 per week.

The information is not available in the exact form requested. However, at 28 June 1988, a total of 143,642 pensioners had entitlement to small amounts of additional pension or graduated retirement benefit of £2 a week or less.
