[holding answer 21 July 1988]: The Ministry of Defence spent £6,980,000 on press and public relations in 1987–88 and our estimated expenditure in 1988–89 is £7,316,000. These figures include staffing costs and expenditure on films, exhibitions, publications and equipment, and cover expenditure on single-service activities as well as on central defence work. The information requested on advertising expenditure is not held centrally, and I shall write to the hon. Member.
