To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the occasions since 1979 that his Department has used, or has sought to use, the powers contained within the Defence Act 1854 to bring about the legal extinction of commoners' rights.

[holding answer 16 June 1988]: The need to extinguish commoners' rights under the Defence Act 1854 has arisen at various times but only on one occasion since 1979, at RAF Greenham Common.
