§ Mr AmessTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many representations he has received concerning the proposed compulsory membership scheme for football supporters; and if he will list the organisations in favour of, and opposed to, the scheme.
§ Mr. MoynihanI have received 130 representations about the national membership scheme from members of the public, nine from organisations. I have also received a large number of proposals to implement the scheme from computer companies and others. I could not list those who have written in by name without their consent to do so.
§ Mr. AmessTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment which organisations he has consulted or proposes to consult in connection with the compulsory membership scheme for football supporters.
§ Mr. MoynihanI am chairing a working party to examine the details of the proposed national membership scheme for football supporters. The Football League, the Football Association, the police, the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency and other Government Departments are represented on it. I have asked the National Federation of Football Supporters Clubs to let me have in writing any points it would like the working party to take into account. I will shortly be issuing a similar invitation to the Football Supporters Association.
It is our intention to bring proposals to Parliament for legislation to give statutory backing to the scheme.
