HC Deb 27 July 1988 vol 138 c364W
Mr. Wray

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what support is given under the new regulation to young people made homeless, with no priority for crisis loans, during the two weeks they must wait for an arrears payment.

Mr. Scott

Young homeless people can apply for a social fund crisis loan. A social fund officer must decide whether a crisis loan is the only means of preventing serious risk to the health and safety of an applicant. Relative priority is not a condition generally applied to applications for crisis loans.

Unemployed people do not necessarily have to wait two weeks for their first payment of income support as benefit for each day since the date of claim can be paid in the first week. Such payments can include a full week's board and lodging charge where this falls due in the part-week.
