HL Deb 26 July 1988 vol 500 c250WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they are taking to secure the amendment of the 1958 UK-USA agreement under which the United States President and Congress still, after 30 years, control the use in British exports of technology originally derived from the United States.

The Minister of State for Defence Procurement (Lord Trefgarne)

None. We are satisfied that the agreement remains of benefit to both parties. The US President's recently declared willingness to seek Congressional approval to certain amendments emphasises the mutual flexibility which underlies its operation.
