HC Deb 26 July 1988 vol 138 c202W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how much will be paid in total during the first year of implementation to trainees on the employment training scheme, over and above their unemployment benefit.

Mr. Nicholls

In the first full year of employment training the Training Commission plans to spend around £800 million on training allowances of which some £190 million is for the lead over benefit and other allowances.

The Training Commission and training managers are also jointly funding a training bonus scheme. Trainees will receive a bonus for completing their action plan of three months or more and a higher bonus for achieving a vocational qualification or a credit towards one.

Training managers or practical training providers may also choose to give additional financial support to trainees.
