HC Deb 26 July 1988 vol 138 cc225-6W
87. Mr. Tredinnick

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what steps he intends to take to improve Territorial Army recruitment.

Mr. Freeman

The Government continue to make every effort to improve Territorial Army recruitment through local and national recruiting campaigns, and we keep under careful review pay and conditions of service of volunteers. Results have so far been satisfactory, but we are not complacent and continue to look for new sources of recruitment to tap. The Government have also taken a number of measures to improve retention, including measures to improve the quality of training. In addition we are about to launch a campaign recommended by the national employer liaison committee to promote public awareness of the value of the Territorial Army and the other reserve forces.
