HC Deb 26 July 1988 vol 138 cc185-6W
Mr. McGrady

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland why the Eastern health and social services board's recent advertisement for an assistant director of social services in the Lisburn unit of management, indicated that similar duties in the Down unit of management would be within the postholder's ambit of responsibility.

Mr. Needham

This is a matter for the Eastern health and social services board. The board had advised that in advertising this post it said that for an interim period the successful candidate may be required to undertake similar duties in Down unit of management. The assistant director of social services, post in Down unit of management, will become vacant from 1 September 1988. The board is and 3 June 1988. As the hon. Member is aware, I have also met representatives of SLANT (Scottish Local Authorities with New Towns) and with the hon. Members representing four of the five new towns on 15 June, when we discussed, among other things, housing policy for the Scottish new towns.
