§ Mr. GalbraithTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list those individuals and medical bodies the Scottish Development Agency is consulting in connection with the eight private medical projects currently being considered for support.
§ Mr. Lang[holding answer 28 March 1988]: Of the eight private medical projects which are currently being considered for support, seven involve the setting up of nursing or residential homes for elderly people and would have only local impact. In each of these cases the agency will ensure that health board and social work department licensing requirements are met.
The remaining project is Health Care International. In this case my right hon. and learned Friend's approval was required. Before giving his approval he consulted, through 184W the Scottish Home and Health Department, a wide variety of interested parties. In addition, the Scottish Development Agency helped the company to meet and discuss the project with a number of individuals and organisations in the medical and political fields—including the hon. Member for Strathkelvin and Bearsden.
§ Mr. GalbraithTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list those individuals and medical bodies the Scottish Development Agency has consulted since 1980 when considering support for private medical projects.
§ Mr. Lang[holding answer 28 March 1988]: No private medical projects were supported by the Scottish Development Agency before 1983. In taking forward such projects it is standard practice for the agency to ensure that appropriate health board or social work department registration requirements are met. Where appropriate, further consultations take place with individuals and organisations.
