HC Deb 26 July 1988 vol 138 cc193-4W
Mr. Fry

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received concerning the proposed national lottery to raise funds for the National Health Service from the National Bingo Game Association Ltd., and what response he has made.

Mr. John Patten

The chairman of the National Bingo Association Ltd. wrote to my right hon. Friend on 31 May about the question of a national lottery for the National Health Service. A reply has been sent thanking him for his letter.

Mr. Fry

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will bring forward amendments to the Gaming Act 1968 to enable licensed bingo halls to sell on their premises tickets for any future national lottery.

Mr. John Patten

The arrangements for the sale of tickets would no doubt be one of the matters for consideration if it were proposed to bring forward legislation to enable a national lottery to take place.
