To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he last met representatives of the Scottish Fishermen's Federation; and which subjects were discussed.

I met representatives of the Scottish Fishermen's Federation on 8 July 1988, together with my right hon. Friend the Minister of State, Scottish Office, Lord Sanderson. We discussed a number of issues of importance to the United Kingdom fishing industry including the capacity of the fleet, the licensing system, rates of grant, the western mackerel fishery, North sea cod and mesh sizes.
