Notes:

1. From 1982–83, expenditure outside Assisted Areas, on land and factory building under the Scottish Development Agency Act has been excluded. The 1987–88 figure for land and factory building is provisional.

2. RSA is provided under the Industrial Development Act 1982 and its predecessors.

3. HIDB loans and equity are classed as non-preferential as these are deemed to be similar to non-preferential assistance outside the HIDB area.

4. HIDB expenditure on land and factory building prior to 1977–78 is not separately identifiable.

5. Assistance under the Development of Tourism Act 1969, section 4 was extended to non-assisted areas in August 1982 and is therefore no longer regarded as part of RPA.

6. Small Firms Employment Subsidy was ended in March 1980. The 1979–80 total for Small Firms Employment Subsidy excludes estimated non-regionally preferential payments.

7. Totals may not equal the sum of constituent parts due to rounding.
