§ Mr. Tony Lloyd
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) if he will make a statement of the condition of the P andO ferry European Clearway;
(2) if he will make a statement on the recent fire on board the ferry European Clearway.

§ Mr. David Mitchell
One of my Department's marine surveyors is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire on the European Clearway and he will be completing his report as soon as possible.

§ Mr. Tony Lloyd
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will arrange for an independent inquiry into operational safety aboard P and O cross-Channel ferries.

§ Mr. David Mitchell
No. My marine surveyors are monitoring safety standards on all cross-Channel ferries.
