To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what publicity he has given to the Government's policy statements on the subject of equal opportunities.

Mr. Ridley

My Department publicised the policy statement on equal opportunities in 1984 and 1985 by issuing establishments bulletins, which are seen by all members of staff.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many and what percentage of women are employed by him in grades 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively, as at 31 May.

The number of women employed at grades 1–4 in my Department as at 1 July were:
