To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what discussions he had during his visit to the People's Republic of China with the new Energy Minister and officials of the various corporations concerned with the energy industry about prospects for British industry in China

The Chinese energy sector has just been reorganised. I met the new Energy Minister and the presidents of each of the energy corporations. I was accompanied by a group of senior British industrialists who attended all these meetings. The Chinese expressed their great satisfaction with the contribution which United Kingdom companies are already making to the development of China's energy resources and they looked forward to expanding co-operation in future.
