HC Deb 25 July 1988 vol 138 c25W
Mr. French

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he has received any representations seeking compensation by holiday tour operators for holiday-makers who have experienced airport delays; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Butcher

I have had no representations from either tour operators or holidaymakers concerning compensation for recent delays experienced at United Kingdom airports. Whether or not a holidaymaker is entitled to compensation in these circumstances will depend on the terms of his contract with the tour operator or on the terms of his holiday insurance policy. Arrangements for holiday makers in the event of airport delays was one of the matters considered by the Office of Fair Trading in its recent review of the operation of the ABTA codes. The office will be publishing its report in the very near future.
