HC Deb 21 July 1988 vol 137 c755W
44. Dame Jill Knight

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will review the working of the Video Recordings Act 1984, with a view to banning computer games which encourage football hooliganism; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Renton

The Video Recordings Act already applies to any video game which to any significant extent depicts acts of gross violence or to any extent stimulates or encourages such acts. It is an offence to supply such a game unless it has been classified by the British Board of Film Classification or, if it has been classified, to supply it other than to a person in the age group for which it is classified as suitable.
